Histórias que falam

The editorial design of Histórias que Falam is guided by clarity, restraint, and formal coherence — a visual response to a collection of poems and reflections rooted in the traditions, landscapes, and identity of Madeira.

The approach

We approached the publication as an editorial system, combining strong imagery, a modular grid and left-aligned typography to guide the reader through a large volume of content.

The editorial design of Histórias que Falam was developed as a quiet and attentive object.

The book introduces the reader to the geography of memory through a sequence that values symmetry, rhythm and breathing space. A left-aligned grid structure was chosen to support readability while allowing the natural flow of the poems and images to guide the experience.

Typography was treated with restraint and consistency, favouring clarity over expression. Photography and archival imagery were integrated as visual counterpoints — never overpowering the text, but reinforcing its emotional presence.

The result is a publication designed to be read slowly, respecting both the content and the reader, and allowing time to become part of the narrative.

The layout was conceived to create pauses — moments where image, text and silence coexist.

The outcome

Histórias que Falam is a restrained editorial object that values clarity, rhythm and presence. A publication where design serves content, and where form quietly supports meaning.
