12th Anniversary – the one line design

Last Monday, February 2, 2015, we completed another anniversary of existence. A dozen. The oneline design began its activities in 2003, with the initiative of 3 friends. In the beginning, most of the projects were identity design (logos), editorial design (book covers and layout), and web design, with the creation of small websites in Flash language. The company had started with a computer, an A3 inkjet printer, a scanner, a ZIP drive, and an analog camera.

The projects were designed in small meetings in various public spaces (cafes and restaurants), and in the midst of our conversations, strategies for developing the projects were outlined. These were developed in a dwelling owned by one of the partners, in Monte (current headquarters), where the work space was restricted to an area of 14 square meters.

In 2005, there was a restructuring of the company, which saw two of its partners leave for personal reasons. The company continued with strength and initiative. It was unpretentious to do many projects, the main concern was and is today, that projects have greater importance in the process, from their idealization, conception, creation and production. We want our work to maintain quality, distinction and value in what we develop.

From 2006 onwards, we continued to develop identity and editorial design but there was a greater focus on web design due to it being an innovative, multidisciplinary medium in World Wide Web (www) environments.

We saw www as a showcase for presenting our projects.

We established partnerships with the Madeira Employment Institute to open professional internships, creating and training a small team, prepared to respond to different project requests. We improved and expanded our equipment, including more computers, large-capacity external hard drives, an A4 format laser printer, and a digital camera. We redesigned strategies and in 2006 we chose to expand our work area and carried out work at the “headquarters” in order to design our own workspace for the different design areas.

With the new space in 2008, now measuring 50 square meters, divided into three large workstations, there was a need due to social reality for new investment and investment in more equipment.

With this new space and equipment, the one line design was able to invest, in small quantities, in the production area, thus implementing the projects developed.

During 2013, we opened a studio in Funchal’s agricultural cooperative building where we were able to separate spaces and work from our design process. We maintained the “base”, studio for production and the studio for idealization and design.

Currently, the one line design is operating in Monte (headquarters) and continues to develop identity, editorial, media (photography and video) and web design projects. We started a new area, environments, where we have been developing interior and exterior design projects for homes and commercial establishments.

His team includes a designer (founder), an architect, and an administrative assistant. We hope to open a vacancy for a (junior) designer in the near future.

Over time, we promised to update our work gallery, but systematic updates delayed updating the portfolio.

We would like to express our gratitude to those who give us the opportunity to create, idealize, and design, but also to all those who have followed our projects. With the uncertainty of continuity, but with the absolute certainty that we do not want to stop here, we hope to contribute inspiration and motivation to everyone.

Thank you very much
